"Gratitude" - Marco M.

Gratitude

For some time now, once I’ve closed the book I’m reading and just before falling asleep, I’ve gotten into the habit of mentally reviewing the most beautiful and significant moments of the day. Obviously, what stays with me isn’t what happened objectively, but a mix of the “subjective experience” plus a Proustian contribution of consciousness in the present moment.

For example, I’ve discovered that I recall many more “significant moments” than I would have ever expected. Sometimes I deliberately stop because otherwise it turns into an endless stream of consciousness. I thus realize that in the last fifteen hours I’ve lived so much more, many moments that alone would be worth a day, perhaps even a lifetime.

I feel time expands to the point of completely losing its boundaries.

I end up falling asleep immersed in beauty and gratitude.
